Operator Assistant – Printing & Packaging
Our client in Cobourg, Ontario, is seeking a dedicated Operator Assistant to join their team in the printing and packaging industry. This full-time, permanent position offers a dynamic work environment focused on manufacturing cartons. The successful candidate will assist with setting up and operating machines and supporting equipment, ensuring production runs smoothly and meets quality standards. As an Operator Assistant, you will play a key role in exceeding customer expectations and supporting the business’s operational, cultural, financial, and strategic objectives.
Position Details
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Rate of Pay: $22.03–$25.45 per hour, commensurate with experience
- Hours of Work: Must be able to work 8-hour, 3-shift operations and/or 12-hour continental shifts with rotating weekends off. Shifts include days, evenings, overnights, and alternate weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Stack carton blanks in the feed mechanism or onto skids.
- Observe machines to detect malfunctions.
- Inspect completed work to identify defects, verify conformance to work order specifications, and adjust machinery as needed.
- Pack finished product (kick) into corrugate boxes or onto skids per customer requirements.
- Palletize finished product and print labels.
- Record daily time and materials usage, and enter information into SAP as requested.
- Perform Preventative Maintenance under the direction of the Operator.
- Disassemble machines to maintain, repair, or replace broken or worn parts using hand tools.
- Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Install and adjust guide assemblies according to box blank dimensions and work order specifications, under Operator direction.
- Maintain Health & Safety and SQF standards.
- Uphold and strengthen the company’s reputation by acting with Integrity, Respect, Accountability, fostering Relationships, and working as part of a Team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous folding carton experience strongly preferred.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to visually discriminate colour for matching and detecting shades and differences.
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods and performing awkward, repetitive movements.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Comfortable working with a variety of hand and electrical tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in fluctuating temperature environments.
