Chief Operating Officer

We are hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for an established, successful family run business operating in Cobourg. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will be energetic, positive, and personable with the ability to motivate a team and emphasize the importance of providing high levels of efficiency and productivity as well as have a hands-on approach to providing strategic and financial leadership as well as perform clerical accounting tasks. This role is an integral part of a small team that works in a very entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate strong leadership, management, and communication skills.

Salary: $90,000 to $110,000

Time of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm with 1-hour lunch break. Additional hours may be required to perform job.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage and perform full-cycle accounting including A/P and A/R
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports, monthly G/L reports, bank reconciliations
  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts including cash flow management and projections
  • Administer leases and formulate various financial analyses as required
  • Manage and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are followed
  • Liaise externally with auditors, bankers, vendors, insurance companies and tenants
  • Open and distribute mail as well as, when necessary, answer phones and direct calls
  • Project coordination – manage renovations, tenant upgrades and other on-site projects
  • Input/maintain tenant records in Yardi including the input of new Tenant records
  • Chair meetings involving the Chairman & CEO by preparing notes and actively sharing ideas/thoughts
  • Be a team player and support the works of the company in the office and in the community
  • Overall, maintain financial health of the company with all aspects of corporate accounting including:
    • accounts payable
    • accounts receivable
    • banking and reconciliation
    • quarterly financial reporting
    • year-end reconciliations and reporting
    • annual budget preparation
    • management and strategic planning
    • lease administration

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • CPA Designation along with HR experience to lead by example and set high standards
  • Understanding of base building as well as knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Collaborative leadership skills with knowledge of the leasing business and administration

Responsibility & Accountability:  Reports to CEO. Work closely with Properties Manager and Facility Specialist.
